Reading, Pa. (Oct. 26, 2022) - Alvernia University won five of the six singles matches on Wednesday en route to an 6-3 win over Albright College in the annual Yocum Cup. The victory marked the fifth straight cup for the Golden Wolves. 

Alvernia began the day down 2-1 after the four ball matches. Jack Lynam tied the contest with a 6&5 win over Albright's Ben Egin. Lynam and Egin were all square heading into the fifth hole before Lynam took a three hole lead heading into the back nine. Lynam then won three straight holes to take the match 6&5 on the 13th hole. 

The fifth match of the cup was played between Alvernia's Luke Fagley and Albright's Sam Elsen with Fagley taking the match 5&4. Fagley jumped out to an early lead by winning four of the first nine holes to take a four up lead heading into the turn. Fagley then extended his lead to five and closed out Elsen with a par on the 14th to take the match 5&4. Fagley's victory gave Alvernia a 3-2 lead over the Lions. 

Match six was played between Alvernia's Owen Wisner and Albright's Evan Twyman with Wisner taking a 3&2 victory. Twyman jumped out to an early two up lead before Wisner eagled the par four fifth and birdied the sixth to tie the match. Wisner and Twyman were all square heading into the 12th before Wisner won the 12th and 13th to go two up before ending the match on the 16th to take a 3&2 victory over Twyman. Wisner's victory put the Golden Wolves up two. 

Alvernia's Dylan Byers and Albright's Will Tarpine played the seventh match of the contest with Byers taking a 9&7 victory over Tarpine. Byers got to work from the start, taking the first seven holes before taking a seven up lead heading into the back nine. Byers birdied the 10th and eagled the 11th to close out Tarpine en route to the 9&7 victory. Byers' 9&7 victory is the largest margin of victory in the Yocum Cup's history.  

The eighth match was played between Alvernia's Tyler Cebular and Albright's Kevin Boccella. Boccella secured the 3&1 win for Albright, tallying the Lions only point of day two. Cebular jumped out to a two up lead heading into the turn before Boccella won the tenth hole to cut the lead to just one. Boccella then won the 14th with a birdie to square the match before taking the 15th, 16th, and 17th to close Cebular out and claim the 3&1 victory for the Lions. 

Match nine was played between Zach Lessley of Alvernia and Colby Gaylor with Lessley taking a 5&3 victory over Gaylor. Gaylor took an early two up lead after winning the first two holes before Lessley won the third and fifth holes to square the match. Lessley won seventh and eighth holes to take a two up lead heading into the turn. Lessley then won the 13th, 14th and 15th to close out the match 5&3. 

This year's Yocum Cup marks the end of the 2022 fall season. Alvernia will return to action in March for its spring championship season.
