Misericordia Throws No-Hitter, Sweeps Golden Wolves

Cougars Throw No-Hitter in Game One, Take 4-2 Win in Game Two

BOX SCORE 1 | BOX SCORE 2 Dallas, Pa. (March 23, 2022) - Alvernia University (4-6) was swept by Misericordia University (8-3) on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference softball action at Misericordia.

The Cougars threw a no-hitter over Alvernia in game one en route to a 3-0 win over the Golden Wolves. A two-run first inning then propelled Misericordia to a 4-2 win over Alvernia in game two.

In game one of the afternoon, Misericordia took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second on back-to-back singles and made it 3-0 in the bottom of the third on a double down the line.

Alvernia was held hitless in the contest as Misericordia's Alexa McHugh struck out 12 and gave up just two walks.

In game two of the contest, Misericordia drove in two runs on a double down the right field line in the bottom of the first.

The Golden Wolves got one back on an Allison Kirschner sac fly to bring in Jaclyn Barbera and make it a 2-1 game.

Misericordia added a run to its lead in the bottom of the third to go up 3-1.

Alvernia got back within one, 3-2, in the top of the 5th with Julia Burkhardt driving in Payton Lascala on a single up the middle. But, Misericordia added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth when McHugh walked and later scored on an error to put the Cougars up 4-2.

Alvernia was then retired in order in the top of the sixth before the game was called for darkness.

Tara Tumasz and Burkhardt led Alvernia in game two with two hits.

Alvernia returns to action on Saturday for a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader at Hood.
