Fagley Paces Alvernia to Third at MAC Commonwealth Championship

Fleetwood, Pa. (April 24, 2022) - Alvernia University's Luke Fagley finished t-5th to pace the Alvernia Men's Golf team to a third place finish at the 2022 MAC Commonwealth Championship on day two of action at Golden Oaks Country Club.

Fagley posted a 7-over 79 on day two for a two-day total of 153 to claim t-5th and First Team All-MAC Commonwealth honors.

Fagley was six strokes back of low-medalist Sean Dowd of Stevenson University. Dowd holed out from the fairway for an eagle on the 18th finishing hole to take the lead with one group still out on the course. No one remaining could match Dowd's score as he took home low-medalist and Rookie of the Year honors.

Stevenson University won the team title with a two-day total of 604. They were nine strokes ahead of second place York College and 19 strokes ahead of Alvernia's two-day total of 623.

Fagley was even through two holes before carding a bogey on the par 4 3rd. He moved back to even with a birdie on the par 5 5th, but that would be his only birdie of his round. With back-to-back bogeys on eight and nine, Fagley made the turn at 2-over 38. Fagley made five pars on the back nine, but was five-over on the back nine and seven-over on his day for his t-5th place finish.

Finishing in second for Alvernia and ninth overall was Jake Duffy with a two-day total of 154. Duffy posted a six-over 78 on his second round of the championship to pick up Second-Team All-MAC honors. Duffy was 3-over on both the front nine and back nine to go six-over on the day. Duffy birdied the par 3 4th and par and the par five 12th.

Polidoro showed the biggest improvement for Alvernia from day one to day two. Polidoro improved six strokes from yesterday for a round of 76 on Sunday for a two-day total of 158 and t-13th finish. Polidoro was 1-under through nine at the turn heading onto the back nine. He eagled the par 5 5th to move to 3-under, but closed out the front-nine with back-to-back bogeys to make the turn at 1-under. A bogey on ten moved Polidoro back to even where he stayed until carding a birdie on par 4 14th. Polidoro struggled to get back in a rhythm the rest of the way as he posted a 4-over 76.

Also finishing in t-13th overall and t-3rd for Alvernia was Jack Lynam, who also had a two-day total of 158. Lynam was 4-over through the opening three holes before stringing off six straight pars to make the turn at 4-over. He dropped to 5-over with a bogey on the tenth, but picked up a stroke with a birdie on the par 5 11th. Lynam then finished the rest of the back nine at 6-over for a round of 82.

Playing as Alvernia's fifth was Zach Lessley with a two-day total of 169. Lessley's second round was highlighted by a birdie on the par 5 8th.

With their team win, Stevenson University will represent the MAC Commonwealth at Mission Inn in a few weeks at the Division III National Championship in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida.
