Polidoro Paces Alvernia at Day One of Hershey Cup

Hershey, Pa. (April 3, 2022) - After the first day of competition on Sunday, Alvernia sits in 13th place overall at the University of Rochester's Hershey Cup at the Hershey Country Club.

The Golden Wolves were led by Joe Polidoro on day one. The graduate student shot a 9-over 79 and sits in t-39 going into Monday. Polidoro got off to a rough start with a nine on the first hole - a long, dog-leg par five - before settling in with four pars on the next eight holes. He made the turn at 8-over 43. Polidoro then pared the first three holes of the back nine before giving two back with bogeys on 13 and 14. After a par on 15, Polidoro posted a birdie on the par 3 16th. Polidoro pared his last two holes for the round of 79.

Finishing one stroke off of Polidoro was Luke Fagley with a round of 80. Fagley was even through two before giving one back on the third. After three pars on holes four through six, Fagley moved back to even with a birdie on seven. He then found trouble on the par 3 eighth, carding a seven, before rebounding for a par on the same hole with players taking on the eighth hole twice in place of an unplayable hole nine. Fagley then played the back nine at 6-over for his round of 80.

Finishing round one in third for Alvernia and t-59 overall was Jack Lynam with a round of 82. Lynam's round was highlighted by seven pars, including four on the front nine.

Rounding out Alvernia's day one counting scores was Zachary Lessley with a round of 88. Lessley posted four pars during his opening round.

Jake Duffy was Alvernia's fifth-man on the opening day of competition, shooting a 93.

Wittenberg University leads the field of 17 after day one with a team score of 294. Wittenberg's Matthew Mattioli shot a 1-under 69 to lead the field of 89 golfers.

Day Two at the East Course gets underway tomorrow morning, with Alvernia's pairings set to begin at 9:15 AM.
