Baseball Places Four on All-MAC Commonwealth Team

Annville, Pa. (May 16, 2022) - Alvernia University Baseball placed four student-athletes on the 2022 All-MAC Commonwealth Baseball team, as announced by the Middle Atlantic Conference.

Jack Cossa earned second team honors as a starting pitcher, and Jake Umans picked up second team honors as a relief pitcher. Zach Rogacki earned second team honors as a catcher, and Brandon Smith rounded Alvernia out with a second team honor as a third baseman.

Jack Cossa, a junior, made 11 starts and 14 appearances on the mound for Alvernia. He finished the season with a 6-3 record and a 3.21 ERA. Over 70 innings pitched, Cossa allowed just 62 hits and struckout 36 batters. His ERA and win total was good for second best in the MAC Commonwealth.

Jake Umans, a first year, made 14 appearances and two starts for the Golden Wolves. He finished the season undefeated on the mound with a 5-0 record. In 34 innings pitched, Umans finished with a 3.18 ERA and gave up just 29 hits while striking out 24 batters and walking just six.

Zach Rogacki, a first year, started in 33 games for Alvernia and played in 34. He led the Golden Wolves with a .339 batting average. He finished the season with 42 hits, including six doubles, four triples, and one home run. He batted in 17 runs while scoring 28. In the field, Rogacki had 145 putouts with 23 assists.

Brandon Smith, a junior, started in 30 games for Alvernia. He finished the season with a .333 batting average. Smith finished the season with 37 hits, including a team-high ten doubles. He batted in 27 runs while scoring 19. In the field, Smith finished with 37 putouts and 67 assists on 113 chances.

The Golden Wolves finished their 2022 season with an 18-24-1 overall record and 10-6 record in MAC Commonwealth play.

Justin Costanzo of Widener was named the 2022 MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year, and Matt Reich of Stevenson was named Pitcher of the Year. Dustin Isanogle of Messiah was named Rookie of the Year, and Jonas Fester of Lebanon Valley was named Coach of the Year.
