Abottstown, Pa. (Sept. 18, 2022) - Three student-athletes fired rounds of 77 to pace Alvernia Men's Golf to a team total of 309 on day one of the two-day Gettysburg College Battle at the Burg at Hanover Country Club.
Jack Lynam, Dylan Byers, and Tyler Cebular each shot rounds of 6-over 77 to lead Alvernia to a team total of 309. Lynam, Byers, and Cebular are all tied for 11th place and Alvernia sits in fourth place entering tomorrow's final round.
Lynam was 4-over through seven holes to start his round, but posted back-to-back birdies on the 8th and 9th holes to make the turn at 2-over. Lynam had four straight pars on holes 14-17, but posted four bogeys on the back nine to finish his round of 77.
Byers put together a great start to his round, posting eight pars on the front nine to make the turn at 1-over. He converted five more pars on his back nine, but was unable to get any back as he finished his first round with a 77.
Cebular made the turn at 4-over with five pars and four bogeys. He then put together a back nine that included three pars and birdies on the 12th and 17th holes for his round of 77.
Finishing in fourth for Alvernia and just one stroke off of Alvernia's top three was Owen Wisner with a round of 78. Wisner had four pars on the front nine and opened his back nine with a birdie on the par 4 10th. He then posted a par before carding another birdie with a three on the par 4 12th. He finished his round with two pars and four bogeys for a round of 78.
Luke Fagley finished with a round of 79 and sits in t-23rd overall. Fagley had 10 pars on his day and also carded a birdie on the par 4 13th.
John Engle played as an individual for Alvernia. He eagled the par 5 1st hole, but finished his first round with a score of 88.
Dickinson College leads the field of eight teams with a first day score of 294. Dickinson's Colin McMahon-Shea is leading the field with a round of 70.
The two-day tournament concludes tomorrow at Hanover CC.
