Fagley Paces Alvernia During Day One of Denison Invitational

Granville, Ohio (Sept. 3, 2022) - Alvernia University graduate student Luke Fagley posted a 3-over 74 to lead Alvernia in the opening round of the two-day Denison University Ted Barclay Invitational, hosted at Denison Golf Club.

Fagley sits t-19 and Alvernia is sitting eighth overall in the field of 11 teams with a team score of 305 going into the final round on Sunday.

Alvernia's Zachary Lessley posted a 76 to finish two back of Fagley, and Jack Lynam had a round of 6-over 77 to finish the day in third for the Golden Wolves. Both Owen Wisner and Dylan Byers matched rounds of 78 in their respective collegiate debuts for Alvernia.

Fagley started his day with a birdie on the first to go 1-under early. He went even the next two holes before giving two back on the 4th and 5th to move to 1-over. With a birdie on the 501 yard par 5 6th hole, Fagle moved back to even. He went par-bogey-par to make the turn at 1-over.

Fagley started his back nine with a par on the 10th and then strung together back-to-back birdies on the 11th and 12th holes to move back to 1-under. He found trouble on the next four holes, going a combined 5-over to move to +4 on his round. Fagley got one back with a birdie on the par 3 17th and posted a four on the par 4 18th to cap off his 3-over 73 round.

Lessley started off his round with back-to-back pars on the 1st and 2nd holes before giving one back with a birdie on the par 4 3rd hole. He moved back to even with a birdie on the fifth and stayed even through the 12th hole. Like Fagley, Lessley struggled on the closing holes, going 6-over through holes 13-17. Lessley capped off his round on a positive note, making a birdie on the 18th to finish 5-over on the day.

Lynam's round was highlighted by a birdie on the par 4 13th and ten total pars - including five straight to close out his round of 77.

Wisner posted two birdies and nine pars in his collegiate debut, and Byers had three birdies with nine pars in his debut.

Alvernia is back in action in the final round of the Barclay Invitational tomorrow morning. The Golden Wolves are chasing the host Big Red and Wittenberg University. Both are leading the field with team rounds of 287.
