Katie Lapinsky paced Alvernia to a team score of 323 on Saturday to put the Golden Wolves in fifth place going into the final round of the Denison University Lynn Schweizer Invitational, hosted at Denison Golf Club.
Lapinsky fired a round of 4-over 76 and sits in 13th place in the field of 84 golfers and 14 teams.
Alvernia's McKylie Boreman finished four shots back of Lapinsky with a round of 80, and Yupha Muzyka sits in third for Alvernia with a round of 80. Finishing in fourth for Alvernia on the first day of competition was first year Rylee Stenzel with a round of 84, and Grace Spielman finished with a round of 88.Â
Lapinsky started her day on the par 4 1st and carded a par on the hole. She gave one back on the 2nd, but moved back to even with a birdie on the par 3 3rd. After a par on the 4th, Lapinsky gave three shots back on the next three holes. She closed out the front nine with back-to-back pars to make the turn at three-over. Lapinsky went par-par-birdie-par on the opening four holes of the back nine. She then finished out her back nine with two bogeys and three pars for her round of 76.
Boreman finished four back of Lapinsky with a round of 80. The junior had four pars on the front nine and three on the back nine. She also added birdies on the par 4 11th and par 5 15th.
Finishing in third for Alvernia on day one was Yupha Muzyka with a round of 83. Muzyka posted eight pars on her round, and had a birdie on the par 5 15th.
Making her collegiate debut and finishing in fourth for Alvernia on day one was Rylee Stenzel with a round of 84. Stenzel posted seven pars on her round.
Finishing in fifth for Alvernia and also making her collegiate debut was Grace Spielman with a round 88. Spielman had two birdies on her round - on the par three 3rd and par 5 15th. She also finished with four pars on her round.
Round one scores were not complete for the entire field at the time of publication. However, the University of Washington - St. Louis was in first place with players still on the course, or waiting to finish their rounds on Sunday morning. Competition was delayed for about one hour due to weather on Saturday. The tournament will conclude tomorrow with the second and final day of competition.Â
