Orwigsburg, Pa. (Sept. 8, 2022) - Alvernia University Women's Golf finished with three of the top five finishers - including low medalist
Katie Lapinsky - to pace Alvernia to a first place team finish on Thursday at the Albright College Invitational at Schuylkill Country Club.
Lapinsky tied with Alvernia's
Yupha Muzyka with each shooting a round of 77. Lapinsky took low medalist honors with Lapinsky shooting a par to Muzyka's bogey on the first playoff hole.
McKylie Boreman rounded out Alvernia's top three finishes with a round of 79.
The Golden Wolves finished in first place in the tournament of three teams with a team score of 322 – finishing 27 strokes better than second place Kutztown.
Lapinsky started her day with back-to-back bogeys before settling in with three straight pars on holes three through five. After bogeys on six and seven, Lapinsky closed out her front nine with pars on eight and nine to make the turn at 4-over.
She started her back nine with a par on the par 4 10
th before giving one back on the 11
th. She then pared the 12
th to spark an excellent stretch that included a par on the 12
th, birdie on the par 5 14
th, par on the 15
th, and another birdie on the par 3 16
th. She gave a shot back on the 17
th before closing her round out with a par on the 18
th.
Like Lapinsky, Muzyka started her round with a bogey on the opening hole before posting back-to-back pars on the 2
nd and 3
rd holes. She gave two back on the par 3 5
th, but then closed her front nine out with pars on four of the final five holes to make the turn at 4-over.
Muzyka started the back with a bogey on 10
th but got one back with a birdie on the par 3 11
th. She then fired off five straight pars and capped off her run with a birdie on the par 5 17
th. She closed out her round with a bogey on the 18
th for the round of 77.
Finishing in third for Alvernia and third overall was Boreman with a round of 79. Boreman posted four pars on her back nine to make the turn at 5-over. After a double to open her back nine, Boreman got to work on her final eight holes. She posted four straight pars and then back-to-back birdies on 15 and 16. She gave one back on the 17
th before closing out with a par on the 18
th.
Finishing in fourth for Alvernia and t-8
th overall was
Rylee Stenzel with a round of 89. Stenzel's round was highlighted by six pars, including four on the back nine.
Rounding out Alvernia's counting scores was
Grace Spielman with a round of 89. Spielman finished her day with five pars.
Autumn Wolf and
Tory Sarge played as individuals for Alvernia, posting rounds of 104 and 120 respectively.
Alvernia returns to action on Wednesday at the Elizabethtown Invitational.
