Lapinsky, Stenzel Lead Alvernia to First Place at Muhlenberg

Lehigh, Pa. (Oct. 9, 2023) - Alvernia's Katie Lapinsky and Rylee Stenzel shared low-medalist honors and Alvernia took first place on Monday at the Muhlenberg Invitational, hosted at Lehigh Country Club.

Alvernia posted a team score of 343 to take first place by 18 strokes. Alvernia's streak continues as the Golden Wolves have taken first in every one of their fall invitationals this season. It is also the third straight year that Alvernia has won the Muhlenberg Invitational. 

Lapinsky and Stenzel each posted 7-over 77s to share low medalist honors after the tie was not broken. Cassidy Miksich finished six strokes back of the duo with an 83 to take fourth place.

Stenzel started her day on the par four ninth hole with a bogey and was three-over through three holes before settling in with a par on the 12th. She followed that with a par on the 13th before finding trouble on 14 and 15. She recorded her third and final par of the back nine with three on the par three 16th. Stenzel then closed out her final eight holes at 1-under with eight straight pars on holes 1-8 before recording a birdie on her final hole of the day, the par four 8th. Stenzel finished with ten pars and a birdie on her round. Stenzel's round marked a new career-low for the sophomore, bettering her previous best of a 79.

Lapinsky went 39-38 on the front and back nine.Through the first nine holes, Lapinsky recorded five pars and four bogeys. She then started out her back nine with a bogey on the tenth before going par-birdie with a three on the par four 12th hole. She recorded three more pars the rest of her round to finish with nine pars on the day.

Finishing in third for Alvernia and fourth overall was Miksich with her round of 83. Miksich's round was highlighted by a birdie on the par four ninth and a birdie on the par four 18th. Miksich finished with eight pars and two birdies on her round.

Both Grace Spielman and Paige Damon finished with 106s for Alvernia to finish in a tie for 16th.

Alvernia is back in action on Saturday at the Gettysburg Fall Invitational.
