Alvernia Fifth, Fagley Sixth at MAC Commonwealth Championship

Ijamsville, Md (April 23, 2023) - Alvernia University graduate student Luke Fagley earned Second Team All-MAC Commonwealth honors to lead Alvernia to a fifth place team finish at the 2023 MAC Commonwealth Championship, hosted at P.B. Dye Golf Club.

Fagley finished t-6th with a two-day score of 155 to earn second team honors. Fagley shot a 77 on day one, and a 78 on day two. 

Alvernia finished fifth amongst the eight team field with a team score of 640. Alvernia fired a 314 on day one and a 326 on day two.

Hood College won the Championship and an automatic bid to the 2023 Division III NCAA Championship with a team score of 618. York's Gavin Ganter earned Golfer of the Year with a first place score of 150, using a day one score of 2-under 70 to propel himself to a first place finish. 

Fagley started his day with back-to-back bogeys before stringing together six straight pars. He bogeyed the ninth to make the turn at 3-over. He pared the 10th before giving two back with a double on the par three 11th. Fagley then pared four of the next five holes before getting a stroke back with a birdie on the par five 17th. He closed out his round with a bogey on 18 for t-6th place and second team all-conference honors. 

Finishing in second for Alvernia and t-14th overall was Jack Lynam with a two-day score of 159. Lynam finished day two with a score of 8-over 80. He made the turn at 8-over on day two before going even on the back nine. He birdied three holes on the back nine, including a birdie on the 10th  to start the final stretch. 

In third for Alvernia and t-18th overall was Jackson Hoovler with a two-day total of 161. Hoovler posted an 82 on day two with nine pars on his round.

Tyler Cebular finished in fourth for Alvernia and t-24th overall with a two-day total of 167. Cebular had an 88 on day two eight pars.

Dylan Byers finished in fifth for Alvernia and 30th overall with a two-day total of 175. Byers was the only Alvernia athlete to improve his day one score with an 86 on day two. Byers also finished with five pars on his round.

Hood, who finished seven strokes ahead of second-place York, will represent the MAC Commonwealth May 16-19 at the Division III National Championship, hosted at Keene Trace in Nicholasville, Kentucky.
