Alvernia Places Four on All-MAC Commonwealth Softball Team

Annville, Pa. (May 10, 2023) - Four Alvernia University Softball student-athletes earned All-MAC Commonwealth Softball honors for their performances during the 2023 season, as announced by the Middle Atlantic Conference on Wednesday.

Alexia Fitzgerald, a first year, earned Second Team honors as an outfielder and Maggie Loomis, a junior, earned Second Team honors as a utility player. Devan Hudson, a senior, earned Honorable Mention at infield, and Brooke Weister, a sophomore, earned Honorable Mention as an outfielder.

Fitzgerald finished second in batting average for Alvernia, with a .330 average on 100 at bats. She finished the year with team-high 33 hits in 30 games played. She had 15 RBIs and 19 runs scored, and had three doubles on the year. She walked eight times and was 23 for 23 on stolen base attempts to lead the MAC Commonwealth in stolen base percentage. In the outfield, Fitzgerald had a .938 fielding percentage with 28 putouts and two assists.

Loomis split her time between pitching and outfield this season. Loomis batted .329 in 28 games played. She had 24 hits on 73 at bats. She led Alvernia with three triples and also had five doubles. She finished the season with seven RBIs and 14 runs scored, as well as a team-high 11 walks. In the circle, Loomis was 8-7 with a 2.00 ERA. She had eight complete games and pitched four shutouts. She finished the season with 35 strikeouts in 80 and two-thirds inning pitching. She also had a .946 fielding percentage with 13 putouts and 22 assists. This is Loomis' second All-MAC Commonwealth honor. She earned second team honors as an outfielder in 2021.

Hudson batted .296 on the year for Alvernia. She led Alvernia with 31 games played, including starting in 30 games. Hudson finished the season with 21 hits on 71 at-bats, and struck out just seven times. She led Alvernia with seven doubles and also had one triple. She drove in a team-high 21 runs while scoring 17 of her own. In the infield, Hudson finished the season with a .912 fielding percentage with 37 putouts and 56 assists. She also helped turn four double plays for Alvernia.

Weister batted .299 for Alvernia across 30 games. She finished the season with 26 hits on 87 at-bats. She had seven extra base hits this season with two triples and five doubles. Weister finished the year driving in 10 runs while scoring a team-high 20 runs. She was 13-for-14 on stolen base attempts and walked eight times. In the outfield for Alvernia, Weister had a .957 fielding percentage. She finished the season with 43 putouts and two assists. 

Sam Burns of Lebanon Valley was named MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year, and Jordan Walter of Lebanon Valley was named Pitcher of the Year. Mackenzie Laub of Eastern was named Rookie of the year, and Scott Adams of Lebanon Valley was named Coach of the Year.

Alvernia finished sixth in the MAC Commonwealth with a 7-9 record in conference play. The Golden Wolves were 19-13 overall. York went on to win the MAC Commonwealth and will represent the conference in the NCAA tournament.
