Women's Track and Field Opens 2024 at Shenandoah

Shenandoah, VA (Jan. 14, 2024) - Alvernia University Women's Track and Field returned from break and took on a field of 11 teams on Sunday at the Shenandoah Kaye and JJ Smith Invitational.

Alvernia had seven individuals post personal records and had eight eighth place or higher finishes. Alvernia finished ninth in team scoring with a total of 18 points.

Highlights

The Women's 4x800m relay team took second place with a time of 10:30.33. The team was composed of Jessie Torres, Rosnelly Sanchez De Aza, Paige Jerrahian, and Isabel Fries at the anchor.
The Women 4x200m relay team took fourth place with a sub two-minute time of 1:59.23. The team was made up of Mariah Haggerty, Samantha Wallace, Elizabeth Kollock, and Elizabeth Kavulak.
Caitlin Sternberg secured a spot in the 60m hurdles final with a 4th place finish and time of 10.26 in the prelims. She went on to take sixth place in the finals with a time of 10.33. Sternberg also took 7th in the 200m with a time of 29.31.
Al'liyah McCloud took eighth place in the 60m dash with a time of 8.38.
Sanchez de Aza and Kavulak took 4th and 5th place, respectively in the 400m. Sanchez de Aza ran a 1:08.63 and Kavulak was right behind with a 1:10.44
Akilah Hoxter took sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 9.88m
