Gaston Paces Alvernia at Ocean Breeze

New York, NY (Feb. 10, 2024) - Alvernia University Women's Track and Field was back in action this weekend at the Big Apple Invitational at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.

Cera Gaston led Alvernia with a second place finish and new program record in the 5,000m on Friday.

Alvernia had a total of six top-15 finishes at Ocean Breeze this weekend and had five new personal records set.

Highlights

Gaston broke her own program record on Friday afternoon with an 18:22.23 in the 5,000m. She was the top Division III finisher and took second place overall.
Caitlin Sternberg and Giavanni Gibson each had top-15 finishes in the 60m hurdles. Sternberg took 10th with a time of 10.06 and Gibson finished with 14th with a time of 10.34
Elisabeth Schwarz took 13th in the 60m dash with a time of 8.19.
Alvernia's 4x400m relay team took sixth place with a time of 4:19.11. The team, who posted a season-best in the event, was made up of Jessie Torres, Sternberg, Elizabeth Kavulak, and Rosnelly Sanchez De Aza.
Mylina Castillo was Alvernia's top field finisher with a 12th place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 10.88m
