Lapinsky Leads Alvernia on Day One of Cardinal Classic

Hagerstown, Md. (April 6, 2024) - Katie Lapinsky and Cassidy Miksich led Alvernia University on day one of the Cardinal Classic hosted by Catholic University at Back Rock Golf Club. 

The Golden Wolves currently sit in first place with a total team score of 336. Alvernia sits 13 shots clear of Catholic who recorded a day one team score of 349. 

Lapinsky fired the low round of the day with an eight over, 80. Lapinsky carded a bogey on the par five first but recovered with seven straight pars before carding a bogey five on the ninth to card a two over, 38 on the front nine. Lapinsky then got back on the par train with pars on 10,11,and 12 but three straight bogeys saw her move to five over par through 15. She then recorded pars at the 16th and 17th but a triple bogey on 18 saw her post a 42 on the back nine and an 80 on the round. Lapinsky sits in first place, four strokes ahead of teammate Cassidy Miksich

Miksich recorded the second best score of the day with a 12 over 84 on day one. Miksich started her day with three straight pars before a bogey on the par four fourth ended the run. Miksich bounced right back and recorded five straight pars to round out her front nine and card a one over 39. Miksich started her back nine by going double bogey, bogey but then recorded a par on the 12th but back to back bogeys at 13 and 14 saw her move to six over on the round. Miksich carded just one par in the final four holes as she carded a 47 on the back nine and ended with a 12 over 84. Miksich is in a tie for second after day one. 

McKylie Boreman carded the third best score for the Golden Wolves with an 86 on day one and currently is in a tie for fifth place with teammate Rylee Stenzel. Boreman carded three pars in her first five holes but a bogey at the second and a double bogey seven at the par five third saw her move to three over par. Boreman then recorded two pars in her final four holes of the front nine to card a five over, 41 on the front. Boreman pared the par four tenth but played the next five holes seven over par before a par at the 16th. Boreman carded back to back bogeys on the 17th and 18th to card a nine over, 45 and post an 86 in round one. 

Rylee Stenzel also carded an 86 on Saturday and is in a tie for fifth with Boreman. Stenzel started with a bogey at the first but bounced back with two pars at two and three before a triple at the fourth. Stenzel then ripped off three pars in the final five holes of the front to card a six over, 42. Stenzel then carded par on the tenth and 11th before bogeys on 12 and 13. Stenzel carded just two pars in the final five holes to post a 44 on the back and finish with an 86. 

Grace Spielman rounded out the counting scores for the Golden Wolves with a 92 and sits in a tie for 15th place after round one. Spielman carded just one par in her first five holes before posting a par at the sixth. Spielman then recorded one par in the final three holes of the front nine to post a 46 after nine. Spielman went double bogey, bogey on ten and 11 before carding a par at the 13th. She then recorded four bogeys before a par at the par three 17th but a seven on the 18th saw her post another 46 on the back and a 92 on the day. 

Paige Damon played as an individual representing the Golden Wolves and sits in 27th place after a day one 104. Damon recorded three bogeys and a double in her first four holes before a par at the par four 5th but big numbers on six and nine saw her post a 50 on the front nine. Damon then started the back nine with a par at ten and 12 but carded more big numbers at 13,14 and 15. Damon recorded a par at the par three 17th to card a 54 on the back nine and a 104 on the day. 

Autumn Wolf rounded out the scores for Alvernia on day one and also represented the Golden Wolves as an individual. Wolf carded a 107 and is in 30th place. Wolf started with a big number on the first but responded with a bogey on the par three second and finished the front nine with a 51. Wolf only recorded one par on the back nine to card a 56 and finish with a 107. 

Alvernia is back in action tomorrow for day two of the Cardinal Classic at Back Rock Golf Club.
