Golden Wolves in 26th Through Day One of NCAA National Championship

Nicholasville, Kentucky (May 21, 2024) - Senior McKylie Boreman paced Alvernia University to a team total of 338 with a round of 9-over 81 on the first day of competition at the NCAA Division III Women's Golf National Championship at Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky. 

Boreman's round of 81 positioned her in a tie of 82nd in the field of 150 players. Alvernia currently sits in a tie for 26th in the field of 29 teams with a team score of 338.. Alvernia is 12 strokes back of breaking the top 20. 

Boreman started her day off with three straight bogeys before settling in with a par on the par 3 4th. She gave one back with a bogey on the fifth, but finished the front nine going 1-under through the final four holes. She capped off her back nine with a birdie on the driveable par 4 9th. Boreman then went 6-over on the back nine with three pars for her round of 81. 

In second for Alvernia through day one and sitting in a tie at 88th overall is Katie Lapinsky with a round of 82. Lapinsky started her round with a par on the par 4 1st hole, but gave a stroke up on the par 5 2nd with a bogey. Lapinsky made the turn at 7-over with a total of three pars on the front nine. Lapinsky made the turn and posted two more bogeys before grabbing a par on the 12th. She had two more bogeys on 13 and 14 before settling in for the final four holes. Lapinsky had three straight pars on 15, 16, and 17 before capping off her round with a birdie on the 18th to secure her round of 82.

In third for Alvernia through day one and sitting in 102nd overall is Cassidy Miksich with a round of 84. Miksich had two pars on the front nine and made the turn at 8-over. She posted a par on the 10th before a double on the 11th and a bogey on the 12th. She then had three straight pars on 13, 14, and 15 and picked up a stroke with a birdie on the par 4 16th. Miksich closed out her day with two bogeys for her round of 84.

In fourth for Alvernia through day one and sitting in a tie for 140th overall is Rylee Stenzel with a round of 91. Stenzel made the turn at 9-over with two pars on the front nine. She played the back nine at 10-over with three more pars for her round of 91. 

Playing as Alvernia's fifth was Grace Spielman. Spielman shot a round of 94 and sits in 146th overall. Spielman had three pars on her round, and her round was highlighted by a birdie on the 9th.

With Alvernia starting in the second wave of teams on day one, they will now switch to early tee times for day two. Spielman will lead off Alvernia on Wednesday with an 8:20 AM tee time off of the tenth hole.
