Nicholasville, Kentucky (May 22, 2024) - Alvernia University Women's Golf wrapped up its time at the 2024 Division III Women's Golf National Championship on Wednesday, improving on its team score by ten strokes to shoot a 328 on day two at Keene Run in Nicholasville, Kentucky.
Following two weather delays - one of which lasted over two hours - this afternoon, the second round of the tournament was suspended with half of the teams only about halfway through their rounds. While places will not be final until the second round is completed on Thursday morning, Alvernia moved up two places into 24th place following the conclusion of its second round. Alvernia finishes its showing at the championship with a two-day total of 666.
Leading the way for Alvernia was
McKylie Boreman. Boreman improved her first round score by two strokes, shooting a 79 on Wednesday for a two-day total of 160. At the time of publication, Boreman was in a tie for 76th. Boreman played primarily par golf on Wednesday. She pared 11 of her 18 holes and sprinkled in six bogeys. She closed out her first nine holes with five straight pars, and closed out her round with four pars on five of her last holes for her round of 79.
Finishing in second for Alvernia was
Katie Lapinsky. Lapinsky improved her first round score by three strokes, shooting a 79 on Wednesday for a two-day total of 161. At the time of publication, Lapinsky was in a tie for 85th. Lapinsky, who teed of the tenth, started her day off with a double, but bounced back with a birdie on 11. She made the turn at 6-over with another birdie on the 17th. Lapinsky then settled in on her final nine holes of the day, paring eight of the nine holes on the front nine to close out her round of 79 and post a two-day total of 161.
Finishing in third for Alvernia was
Cassidy Miksich. Miksich improved her first round score by six strokes, shooting a 78 on Wednesday for Alvernia's low round of the day. Miksich finished with a two-day total of 162. At the time of publication, she was in a tie for 90th. Miksich started her day with birdie on the tenth after holing out from the fairway. After bogeys on 12 and 14, Miksich was poised to make the turn at 1-over. However, she found trouble off the tee on 18 and posted a double to make the turn at 3-over. She then carded four straight pars to open the front nine. After trouble on the fifth, seventh, and eighth coming out of the second delay, Miksich birdied the ninth to close out her round of 78 and post a two-day total of 162.
Rylee Stenzel and
Grace Spielman tied with two-day totals of 186, and both were in a tie for 144th at the time of publication.
Spielman was Alvernia's fourth counting score of the day. She posted a 92 to improve by two strokes from her first round. Spielman had three pars on her day and birdied the par four first hole.
Stenzel posted a 95 on day two for her two-day total of 186. Stenzel had five pars on her day for her round of 95.
At the time of publication, Emory University and Carnegie Mellon were in a tie for first. Each team had eight holes to play.
