Five Golden Wolves Earn All-MAC Commonwealth Softball Honors

Reading, Pa. (May 8, 2024) - Five Alvernia University Softball student-athletes earned All-MAC Commonwealth Softball honors for their performances during the 2024 season, as announced by the Middle Atlantic Conference on Wednesday.

Taylor McClain, Alexia Fitzgerald, and Maggie Loomis each earned First Team All-MAC Commonwealth honors. Brooke Hauck earned Second Team All-MAC Commonwealth, and Jaclyn Barbera earned All-MAC Commonwealth honorable mention.

Taylor McClain, a first year, had a fantastic rookie season at shortstop for the Golden Wolves. McClain played in 38 of Alvernia's 39 games, and made starts in 36 games. She batted .348 with 40 hits, 30 RBIs, and 23 runs scored. McClain finished the season with six doubles and two triples, and struck out just five times. She was also walked 20 times and was 12-for-13 on stolen bases. In the field, McClain had 109 assists and 50 putouts on 164 chances. She was  a part of three double plays turned.  

Alexia Fitzgerald, a sophomore, picked up her second career All-MAC Commonwealth honor as an outfielder. Fitzgerald led Alvernia with a .411 batting average and had a team-high 51 hits, including 11 doubles and a triple. Fitzgerald had 15 RBIs and scored 32 runs. She was a perfect 24-for-24 on stolen base attempts and led Alvernai with 22 walks. Fitzgerald was Alvernia's primary leadoff batter this season, and had an on-base percentage of .574 from the leadoff spot. In the outfield, Fitzgerald had a perfect fielding percentage with 41 putouts and three assists. Fitzgerald earned second team honors last season.

Maggie Loomis, a senior, was named First Team All-MAC Commonwealth as a utility player. Loomis pitched and played outfield for the Golden Wolves this season, while also posting a .344 batting average with 32 hits, 23 runs, and 11 RBIs. Loomis was 8-for-8 on stolen base attempts and had five extra base hits. In the circle, Loomis went 14-6 overall through 131 and two thirds innings pitched. She threw 16 complete games, three shutouts, and struckout 54 batters with an ERA of 2.55. Between pitching and playing the outfield, Loomis had 19 putouts and 31 assists with just one error. This is Loomis' third All-MAC Commonwealth honor. She was a second team utility player in 2023, and earned second team as an outfielder in 2021.

Brooke Hauck, a junior, picked up her second All-MAC Commonwealth honor as an outfielder. Hauck batted .365 with 42 hits, 33 runs scored, and 25 RBIs. She led Alvernia with 17 extra base hits - including five home runs and three triples - a .626 slug percentages, and 72 total bases. Hauck finished the year with 11 two-out RBIs and batted .370 with runners on base. Hauck also had 59 putouts and an assist in center field this year for the Golden Wolves. This is her second All-MAC Commonwealth honor. Hauck was also an honorable mention honoree in 2023 as an outfielder.

Jaclyn Barbera, a junior, earned her second All-MAC Commonwealth honor. Barbera earned honorable mention this season as a catcher. Barbera batted .306 with 33 hits, 19 RBIs, and 13 runs scored. Barbera finished the year with nine doubles and 48 total bases. Barbera finished the season with 92 putouts and 13 assists behind the plate. She had just one error this season. This is Barbera's second All-MAC Commonwealth honor. She was also an honorable mention in 2022 as a catcher.

York's Emma Wade was named the MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year. Eastern first year pitcher Danika Barthol was named both the Pitcher and Rookie of the Year. Eastern's Terri Adams was named Coach of the Year.

Alvernia finished the 2024 season fourth in the MAC Commonwealth with an overall record of 23-16 and a conference record of 8-6.
