Record 13 Student-Athletes Earn Spring Academic All-MAC Honors

Reading, Pa. (July 9, 2024) - Alvernia University placed 13 student-athletes on respective 2024 Spring Academic All-MAC Teams, as announced by Middle Atlantic Conference Executive Director Megan Morrison on Tuesday.

Alvernia's 13 student-athletes on the Spring Academic All-MAC team is the most in a single season for Alvernia since the Academic All-MAC program began in the Fall of 2013.

Mike Ramundo (Baseball), Maggie Loomis (Softball), Taylor McClain (Softball), Jackson Hoovler (Men's Golf), Shawn Williams (Men's Golf), McKylie Boreman (Women's Golf), Katie Lapinsky (Women's Golf), Cassidy Miksich (Women's Golf), Rylee Stenzel (Women's Golf), Dane Sabarese (Men's Lacrosse), Lucas Berger (Men's Tennis), Leah Bouchard (Women's Tennis), and Cera Gaston (Women's Outdoor Track and Field) each earned the honor for Alvernia.

Mike Ramundo, a senior majoring in athletic training, was the 2024 ABCA Regional Player of the Year and a second team ABCA All-American. Ramundo, who was also a first team All-MAC Commonwealth honoree, started in 47 games for Alvernia this year. He batted .447 with 80 hits, 53 runs scored, and 38 RBIs. In the field, he finished with 107 putouts and 75 assists with a .963 fielding percentage. This is Ramundo's first Academic All-MAC honor.

Maggie Loomis, a fourth year in the doctorate of physical therapy program, was a first team All-MAC Commonwealth honoree and earned second team NFCA All-Region honors. Loomis pitched in 21 games for Alvernia and finished with a 14-6 record. She had a 2.55 ERA with 54 strikeouts on the year. Loomis also batted .344 with 32 hits, 11 RBIs, and 23 runs scored. This is Loomis' first Academic All-MAC honor.

Taylor McClain, a first year majoring in early childhood education, was a first team All-MAC Commonwealth honoree and earned second team NFCA All-Region honors. McClain played in 38 of Alvernia's 39 games this season. She finished with a .348 batting average with 40 hits - including eight extra base hits - 23 runs scored, and 30 RBIs. McClain finished the year with 12 stolen bases. In the field, she had 109 assists and 50 putouts. This is her first Academic All-MAC honor.

Jackson Hoovler, a junior majoring in athletic training, was a first team All-MAC Commonwealth honoree. Hoovler finished T-4th at the 2024 MAC Commonwealth Men's Golf Championship with a two-day score of 149. Hoovler averaged a 77.83 over 18 rounds played in the fall and spring seasons. He finished the year with four top-ten finishes. He also recorded 162 pars, 38 birdies and two eagles. This is his first Academic All-MAC honor.

Shawn Williams, a sophomore majoring in communication, was a first team All-MAC Commonwealth honoree following a t-2nd place finish at the MAC Commonwealth Men's Golf Championship. Williams shot a two-day total of 148 to finish as Alvernia's top-finisher. Williams played in 18 rounds between the fall and spring seasons this year for Alvernia. He finished the year with a 75.94 scoring average. He had 159 pars, 43 birdies, and two eagles on the year. This is Williams' first Academic All-MAC honor.

McKylie Boreman, a senior majoring in occupational therapy, was the 2024 MAC Women's Golfer of the Year. Boreman took first at the 2024 MAC Championship with an even par round of 72 to lead Alvernia to a team title and an NCAA Championship appearance. Boreman finished the year with a 77.9 scoring average over 16 rounds played. Boreman had 145 pars and 23 birdies. She had nine top-ten finishes, seven top-three finishes, and two low-medalist honors. This is Boreman's fourth Academic All-MAC honor.

Katie Lapinsky, a junior majoring in accounting, took first team All-MAC honors with a t-2nd finish at the 2024 MAC Championship following a round of 77. Her round of 77 helped lead Alvernia to a team title and an NCAA Championship appearance. Lapinsky finished the year with a 79.8 scoring average over 22 rounds played. Lapinsky finished the year with 22 birdies and had a team-high 212 pars. Lapinsky finished the year with 12 top-ten finishes, seven top-three finishes, and three low medalist honors. This is Lapinsky's third Academic All-MAC honor.

Cassidy Miksich, a first year majoring in occupational therapy, took first team All-MAC honors with a fourth place finish at the MAC Championship with a round of 78. Her round of 78 helped lead Alvernia to a team title and an NCAA Championship appearance. Miksich set a new single-round record for Alvernia back in the fall with a round of 69 at Hershey Country Club (East). Miksich played in 21 rounds for Alvernia this season and averaged an 81.5. Miksich finished the year with 170 pars and 25 birdies. She had ten top-ten finishes, six top-three finishes, and three low medalist honors. This is her first Academic All-MAC honor.

Rylee Stenzel, a sophomore majoring in criminal justice, took first team All-MAC honors with a fifth place finish at the MAC Championship with a round of 79. Her round of 79 helped lead Alvernia to a team title and an NCAA Championship appearance. Stenzel finished the year with an 84.91 scoring average of 22 rounds played. She finished the season with 165 pars and 18 birdies. Stenzel had nine top-ten finishes this year, two top-three finishes, and two low medalist honors. This is Stenzel's second Academic All-MAC honor.

Dane Sabarese, a junior majoring in communication, was the 2024 MAC Commonwealth Goalie of the Year. Sabarese was also a first team All-MAC Commonwealth honoree and the first player in program history to earn All-American honors following a USILA All-American recognition. Sabarese started in all 16 games for Alvernia this season. He finished the year with a conference leading 254 saves. He also had a .632 save percentage and a 10.34 goals against average. Sabarese finished the year ranked fourth in all of Division III with his 254 saves. This is Sabarese's first Academic All-MAC honor. He is also the first Men's Lacrosse student-athlete for Alvernia to earn the honor. 

Lucas Berger, a junior majoring in communication, was a first team All-MAC Commonwealth honoree. Berger finished the year going 6-8 for Alverni at #1 singles, and was 3-2 in MAC Commonwealth play. Berger was 7-7 at #1 doubles with partner Jayden Lewis. Berger won his first five singles matches in the spring season. This is Berger's first Academic All-MAC honor.

Leah Bouchard, a senior majoring in biology medical laboratory science, became a four-time first team All-MAC Commonwealth honoree this spring. Bouchard competed at the #1 spot for Alvernia this year and went 10-3 overall and 4-1 in MAC Commonwealth play. Bouchard tallied five wins in the first six matches this spring. Bouchard also went 7-6 at #1 doubles with partner Lily Summerson, and the duo was 4-3 in conference play. This is Bouchard's second Academic All-MAC honor.

Cera Gaston, a graduate student majoring in educational leadership, was a first team All-MAC honoree and a two-event USTFCCCA All-Region honoree. Gaston took first place at the MAC Championship in the 10,000m with a time of 37:58.92 and was second in the 5,000m with a time of 17:51.53. Gaston also took first at the AARTFC Championship in the 10,000m with a time of 37:19.48. Gaston broke school records in the 3,000m, 5,000m, and 10,000m this season. This is Gaston's first Academic All-MAC honor.
