Golden Wolves Drop Doubleheader to Spartans to Close Out Commonwealth Play

York, Pa (April 27, 2025) - Alvernia University (23-16, 14-7) dropped games two and three of its final MAC Commonwealth baseball series with York College (21-17, 15-6) Sunday afternoon at York's Jaquet Field.

After the series with the Spartans, the Golden Wolves finished third in the MAC Commonwealth standings and will be heading back to York College to take on the Spartans next weekend in a MAC Commonwealth baseball semifinal series. With the securing of the three seed, Alvernia has now made the MAC Commonwealth postseason in all 16 seasons it's played in the Commonwealth.

The Spartans grabbed game one by a score of 3-2 after they held off a late push by the Golden Wolves. York then squeaked out yet another one run game in the second game of the double header, 5-4, to secure the series sweep and the two seed in the conference.

  • Hitchcock then scored thanks to a Harold Ivery III sacrifice fly to right field to make it a one run ballgame, 3-2, but it was not enough as the Spartans shut the door and secured the series with the game one victory.
