103 Student Athletes Honored at Alvernia’s Senior Athlete Ceremony

Reading, Pa (May 9, 2025) - Alvernia University held its annual Senior Athlete Awards Ceremony Friday evening in the Physical Education Center at Alvernia University. 

Alvernia honored 101 graduating student-athletes with 60 of them being honored for academic excellence and holding a cumulative 3.30 GPA or higher during their careers. Additionally, 20 student-athletes were honored for their athletic and academic achievements during their years as a Golden Wolf. 

McKylie Boreman of Women's Golf and Matthew Lackman of Men's Wrestling were both honored as Alvernia's Most Outstanding Male and Female Athletes. Most Outstanding Athlete is awarded to a male and female student-athlete who have demonstrated superior excellence in their sports, or sports, garnering conference, regional, and national acclaim throughout their careers at Alvernia. 

Brooke Hauck of Softball and Matthew Kerr of Men's Soccer were both honored as Alvernia's Senior Scholar Athletes. Senior Scholar Athlete is awarded to the student-athletes who have excelled in the classroom at the highest level during their careers at Alvernia. 

Olivia Malone of Women's Soccer and Lacrosse and William Fisher of Men's Basketball were honored with the Kelly McCloskey Franciscan Award. The Kelly McCloskey Franciscan Award is presented to student-athletes who embody the core values of both Kelly and the mission of Alvernia and demonstrates a high level of integrity, sportsmanship and a positive attitude during their careers at Alvernia. 

Sophia Ruocco of Women's Lacrosse and Jamel Fleming of Football were awarded the Athletic Director's Award for embodying the mission of the institution through their actions on and off the field, and for excelling in the classroom and in the community. 

Six Alvernia senior student-athletes were awarded Athletic Excellence Awards for excelling in athletics and earning conference, regional and or national recognition for their accomplishments during their careers at Alvernia. Ryan Cogill of Men's Soccer, Dane Sabarese of Men's Lacrosse Sydney Bradley of Women's Ice Hockey, Keito Shaw of Men's Wrestling, Mauro Pellot-Vazquez of Men's Wrestling and Dachan Thompson of Football were all honored for their athletic accomplishments while at Alvernia. 

Seven Alvernia senior student-athletes were awarded the Golden Wolf Award for earning and sustaining first or second team All-Conference honors at least twice during their careers as a Golden Wolf. Katie Lapinsky of Women's Golf, Julia Franklin of Women's Ice Hockey, Abbie Buck of Field Hockey, Lucas Berger of Men's Tennis, Jakob Kelly of Men's Basketball, Jackson Hoovler of Men's Golf and Brooke Hauck of Softball were all awarded the Golden Wolf award for their accomplishments during their time at Alvernia.
