Crusaders Prevail 1-0 At Swarthmore

BOX SCORE

Swarthmore, Pa. (Oct. 8, 2007) – Alvernia College got back to its winning ways Monday evening with a 1-0 win over Swarthmore College in non-conference field hockey action at Swarthmore. Freshman Christy Yousaitis (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) scored the only goal of the game on a rebound in the 45th minute and junior Audrey Hoffman (Mertztown, Pa./Brandywine Heights) made seven of her 10 saves in the second half.

Alvernia held an 8-5 advantage in shots in the opening half, but neither team could find the scoring column as both goalies turned away three shots each. Yousaitis cleaned up a rebound 10 minutes into the second half for the Crusaders (10-3) who have won nine of the last 10.

Swarthmore turned up the offensive heat in on a hot, humid October night rattling off 16 second half shots, but Hoffman was up to the task every time she was tested, including four times in the final 10 minutes to post her fourth shutout of the season.

Alvernia will return to the conference schedule with a trip to Immaculata on Wednesday.
