Goaltender Chris Medico records first Shut Out in Club History

Reading, Pa. ( November 3, 2007 ) - Alvernia absolutely dominated Shippensburg University in an ACHA Non-League contest with a lopsided 11-0 shellacking. Chris Medico (Madison, NJ/Madison) made 29 saves in a milestone game for Alvernia College Ice Hockey. The victory over the Red Raiders would be the first recorded shutout in club history for the Vern. The Crusaders fired 56 shots on the Shippensburg defense and hit double digits in scoring for the third time in eight games.

Alvernia jumped to a quick one goal lead just five minutes into the contest and this would stand as the game winner. Zane Camburn ( Rieglesville, PA/Nazareth) working the power play advantage from behind the visitors cage, reversed the puck to center Eric Ryan (Aston, PA/Sun Valley) waiting on the unprotected doorstep, who easily deposited a wrist shot into the uncovered nearside goal. Alvernia collected five first period goals along with five second period strikes. Offensive standouts included two goal efforts from junior Michael Gilmore (Farmington, MN/Eastview) and first line center Jeff Bohler (Ephrata, PA/Ephrata). Additional lamp lighters included freshman Josh Cohen (Pottstown, PA/Coventry Christian), Cohen also added three assists, good for a team high thirteen points. The multi-talented defenseman Ian MacMillan (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) snapped home another tally. The speedy defenseman maneuvered well through the neutral zone, creating a golden scoring opportunity from between the circles. Other lone goals came off the sticks of forwards Camburn, John Caputo (Philadelphia, PA/ Roman Catholic) and freshman sensation Anthony Froio (Glenolden, PA/Interboro). Steve Waricka (Millstone, NJ/Allentown HS) finished off the Crusader cavalcade of goals with a nifty backhand break away.

A statement game for sure, as Alvernia's last memory of Shippensburg was a 3-2 overtime shoot out loss. Last years memory should be well exercised as the team was firing on all cylinders this particular night. A solid defense by committee helped preserve the shut out for Medico and carry momentum into a conference showdown with Mason-Dixon rival Bucknell University.

Alvernia supporting White Jersey for Non-Conference Home Game. Don't understand? Here's the deal : Mason-Dixon daring to be different adopted that Home Team will wear Dark sweaters, while all other conferences still have the more traditional rule that Home wears White. Confused, well the school laundress is too.
