Club Ice Hockey Goes 1-1 in Weekend Action

Reading, Pa. (Feb. 9, 2026) - Alvernia Men's Club Ice Hockey went 1-1 in weekend action, picking up a 14-2 win over Gettysburg on Friday before dropping a 6-3 contest to Kutztown on Saturday.

Alvernia vs. Gettysburg
The Golden Wolves jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the first period. Alvernia got on the board with a goal by Nathan Ciccarelli three and a half minutes into the contest, and Brendan Fergus made it a 2-0 game just 23 seconds later. The Golden Wolves then made it a 3-0 game with a goal by Vaughn Winter five minutes into the game, and scored another quick goal off the stick of Mark Torre 14 seconds later. Goals from Christopher Claycomb and Jimmy Sparacio made it a 6-0 game through 13 minutes of play. The Bullets then got on the board with just under a minute to play in the period to make it a 6-1 game going into the second.

Both sides went scoreless for 15 minutes to open the period before a goal from Reece Wilson got Alvernia back on the board. Torre followed two minutes later for his second of the game to make it 8-1 going into the third.

Ciccarelli scored his second of the afternoon to open the third period, but the Bullets got one back two minutes later. Alvernia then scored five unanswered goals to close out the contest for the 14-2 win. Joseph Mullen, Landon Sands, Ciccarelli, Torre, and Evan Conibeer each recorded a goal for Alvernia in the final 14 minutes.

12 Golden Wolves finished the game with multiple points. Ciccareli led the way with three goals and an assist. Evan O'Byrne also finished with four points, all off of assists. Mark Torre joined Ciccareli with a hat trick, and Evan Conibeer, Landon Sands, and Brendan Fergus all finished with three points off of a goal and two assists. Jackson Lesko finished with 22 saves in net.

Alvernia vs. Kutztown
The Golden Bears got on the board with a goal just over a minute into the game, and made it a 2-0 game five minutes later. Kutztown then made it a 3-0 game as the period eclipsed its midpoint.  Alvernia held Kutztown scoreless the rest of the period, but could not get on the board.

The Golden Bears tacked on two more goals in the second period - scoring both just under a minute a part - to take a 5-0 lead into the third.

Alvernia got on the board with a power-play goal by Reece Wilson seven minutes into the third, and made it a 5-2 game with an Evan O'Byrne power-play goal with just under 10 minutes to play. The Golden Wolves then got within two, 5-3, on a Brendan Rergus short-handed goal with 3:16 to play. But, Alvernia did not threaten Kutztown's lead any further, and the Golden Bears put the game out of reach with a power-play goal with just under two minutes to play.

Both John Bellantoni and Evan O'Bryne finished with two points. Bellantoni recorded two assists, and O'Byrne finished with a goal and an assist. Duncan McDowell finished with 40 saves in net. 

Alvernia is back in action on Friday at Gettysburg.
