Alvernia Downs Lafayette, 6-3

Wyomissing, Pa. (Feb. 2, 2026) - Alvernia Men's Club Ice Hockey scored three goals in the final frame to secure a 6-3 win over Lafayette College on Sunday in Delaware Valley Collegiate Hockey Conference (DVCHC) action on Sunday at Body Zone.

The Golden Wolves led 2-1 through the first period before Lafayette evened the game at 2-2 late in the second period. Alvernia retook the lead less than a minute later and made it a 4-2 game early in the third period. Lafayette got back within one, 4-3, with just over 14 minutes to play before Alvernia scored two unanswered to secure the 6-3 win.

How it Happened
  • The Golden Wolves struck first just under 90 seconds into the contest with a goal by John Bellantoni assisted by Haden Peoples and Logan Buch. The Leopards answered four minutes later to even the game at 1-1. Alvernia broke the tie with an unassisted goal by Bryan Pilpel with seven minutes to play in the period. The Golden Wolves killed off two penalties to close the period, but held the Leopards to just 11 shots in the period to Alvernia's 15.
  • After 15 minutes of scoreless action, Lafayette evened the game at 2-2 with 4:19 to play in the frame. But, just 35 seconds later, Alvernia retook the lead with a goal by Benjamin Maurer off the assists of Evan O'Byrne and Buch. Both teams had late power-play opportunities to close out the period, but neither converted as the game moved into the third with Alvernia leading, 3-2.
  • Alverina opened the third period with Pilpel's second goal of the evening off the assists of Benjamin Maurer and Brendan Fergus to give Alvernia the 4-2 advantage. The Leopards threatened, getting back within one, 4-3, with a goal two minutes later. Both sides then had a 4v4 opportunity after simultaneous penalties were assessed, but neither found the back of the net. Alvernia then went back up by two, 5-3, with Buch finding the back of the net following two assists earlier in the game. The Golden Wolves then put the game out of reach with an O'Byrne goal off the assists of Maurer and Buch with 1:32 to play for the 6-3 win.

  • Benjamin Maurer and Logan Buch finished with four points each off of a goal and three assists. Bryan Pilpel finished with points off of two goals, and Evan O'Byrne had two points off of a goal and an assist.
  • Jackson Lesko played the full 60 minutes in net, finishing with 27 saves.
