Bellantoni Leads Alvernia Club Ice Hockey Past Hofstra, 6-5

Freeport, N.Y. (October 12, 2025) - Alvernia University (3-3-0) outlasted Hofstra University(2-1-0), 6-5, Sunday afternoon in club ice hockey action. 

Alvernia defenseman John Bellantoni netted the game winner with under six to play in the third period to lead the Golden Wolves to victory. The goal was his second of the day and he also added two assists on the day. 

How it Happened 
  • The Golden Wolves came out firing in the first period and netted three goals in the early 20 minutes of action when Joseph Mullen netted a goal in the first two minutes of the game to give the Golden Wolves the early 1-0 lead. 
  • Bryan Pilpel then added to the lead with a power play goal thanks to an assist from Bellantoni six minutes into the period before Bellantoni netted his first goal of the afternoon under three minutes later to make it a 3-0 Alvernia lead heading to the second period. 
  • The Pride climbed back into the game with three goals in the second period but Alvernia's Dominic Garcia netted a goal in the first five minutes of the period as the Golden Wolves took a one goal, 4-3 lead into the final 20 minutes of hockey. 
  • Hofstra leveled the score with 11:50 to go in the third period after a goal tied the game 4-4 but the Golden Wolves responded with goals from Garcia and Bellantoni to make it a 6-4 Alvernia advantage. 
  • Hofstra grabbed one more back in the final three minutes of the third period but it was not enough as the Golden Wolves defense held strong to secure the 6-5 victory over the Pride.

  • The Golden Wolves are back in action on Saturday when they host Bloomsburg University at The Body Zone for a DVCHC contest at 4:00 PM. Alvernia then travels up to Sunbury, Pa. to take on Bucknell University in another conference matchup at 3:45 PM at the James R. Eister Community Center.
