Alvernia Men’s Club Ice Hockey Goes 1-1 Over the Weekend

Reading, Pa. (October 28, 2025) - Alvernia University Men's Club Ice Hockey(5-4) went 1-1 over the weekend against Lehigh University and Rutgers University.

Alvernia dropped the first game of the weekend on Friday to Lehigh, 2-1, after a late goal in the third period propelled the Mountain Hawks to the victory. The Golden Wolves then turned things around and netted 13 goals in a 13-2 victory over Rutgers University on Sunday.

Game 1: Lehigh: 2, Alvernia: 1

How it Happened

The Golden Wolves got things going early in the first period after Reece Wilson and John Bellantoni assisted Christopher Claycomb just under two minutes into the contest to give the Golden Wolves an early 1-0 lead.
Lehigh leveled the score five minutes later thanks to a Valentyn Kurylko goal made it 1-1 heading to the first intermission.
A scoreless second period was highlighted by both teams rattling off shots at each other's net with the Golden Wolves recording 15 shots on goal and Lehigh recorded 17 shots on goal but neither team were able to put the puck into the back of the net as it headed to the third period tied at one.
The Mountain Hawks then found the game winner with just over four minutes to play in the third period when Valentyn Kurylko and Jim Rosenblum assisted Daniel Furman to secure a 2-1 victory.

Christopher Claycomb netted the lone goal for the Golden Wolves and Reece Wilson and John Bellantoni provided the assists on the goal.

Game 2: Alvernia: 13, Rutgers: 2

How it Happened

The Golden Wolves came out flying in the first period and put the puck into the back of the net four times in the first 20 minutes of the contest.
Brendan Fergus got things going with two goals within 22 seconds of each other to give Alvernia a quick 2-0 lead. Haden Peoples recorded an assist on the first goal and Nathan Ciccarelli and Bryan Pilpel both tallied assists on the second goal.
Pilpel then got in the action with a goal with seven minutes left in the period to make it 3-0.
Logan Buch rounded out the period with a goal in the final four minutes thanks to a Claycomb assist to send the Golden Wolves into the room with a four goal lead after the first 20 minutes of play.
Buch tallied a second goal just a few minutes into the second period to push the Alvernia lead to 5-0.
Rutgers responded with two goals in two minutes to cut the Alvernia lead to three, 5-2, but the Golden Wolves bounced back with two more goals in the final three minutes to push the lead back to five, 7-2, after two periods of play. Buch netted his second of the period and third goal of the game and Domnic Garcia got in on the action and found the back of the net in the final seconds of the second period.
Alvernia then continued its dominance on the offensive side of the ice and rattled off six goals in the third period to secure the 13-2 victory over the Scarlet Knights.
Phil Juzwick, Roman Carpenter, Fergus, Buch, Joseph Mullen and Andrew Denny all netted goals for the Golden Wolves in the third period to lead Alvernia to victory.

Brendan Fergus, Joseph Mullen and Logan Buch all recorded four points for the Golden Wolves. Fergus netted three goals and added an assist, Buch scored a game high four goals and Mullen netted a goal and dished out three assists.

Benjamin Maurer, Christopher Claycomb and Nathan Ciccarelli all recorded two assists and Bryan Pilpel tallied a goal and an assist for Alvernia.
