Alvernia Falls To Misericordia 4-2

Brandi Lights Scored Both Crusader Goals

Reading, Pa. (September 22, 2007) – Alvernia College fell to 4-4-1 (2-2 PAC) with a 4-2 loss to Misericordia University this afternoon in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Women's Soccer action. With the loss, the Crusaders are now 1-2 on their home turf. Senior forward Brandi Light (Myerstown, PA/Tulpehocken) followed up her record tying performance last game where she posted three goals and two assists, with another two goals this afternoon. 
 
Misericordia University (4-4-1, 2-2 PAC) found the net first in the sixth minute when freshman forward Kim Suchoski (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Bishop Hoban) scored her team leading seventh goal of the season as she weaved through the Crusader defense and sent a shot that hit the right bar before finding the back of the net. The Cougars added to their lead just before half-time when they capitalized on a key Crusader foul and Brittany Brouse (Sunbury, PA/Shikellamy) was successful with her penalty kick opportunity.
 
Misericordia continued to hold Alvernia scoreless and went up 3-0 in the 58th minute when Kari Shaner (Hughesville, PA/Hughesville) drilled a shot into the lower right corner for her first goal of the season.
 
The Crusaders managed to close the gap in the 62nd minute when Light was assisted by freshman Stephanie Loftus (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) and placed the ball just past the goalie's reach. Light would close the gap even further in the 78th minute as she carried the ball up the field and fired a shot for her team-leading tenth goal of the season.
 
With the score now 3-2 in Misericordia's favor, the Cougars added an insurance goal in the 80th minute as Suchoski connected for her eighth goal of the season.
 
Misericordia University doubled Alvernia's shots 22-11 and held the 5-3 advantage in corner kicks. Crusader goalie Danielle Fitzpatrick (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) had ten saves for Alvernia.
 
The Crusaders will look to climb above .500 on the season, and in the PAC when they hit the road to face Marywood on September 26th at 4:00 pm.
