Alvernia Drops Opener to Lynchburg 0-2

Lynchburg Connects on Two Penalty Kicks

Hampden-Sydney, VA (September 1, 2007) – Alvernia College saw Lynchburg make the most of their
penalty kick opportunities, scoring one in the first half in the 44th minute and one in the second half in
the 66th minute for a 2-0 win over Alvernia at the Hampden-Sydney Tournament on Saturday afternoon. With the win, Lynchburg, who received votes in the pre-season national top 20 poll improves to 1-0 on the season, while the Crusaders fall to 0-1.

 

The Crusaders were able to manage only seven shots, with both Adam Lush (Reading, PA/Muhlenberg HS) and Kyle Keller (Mount Penn, PA/Antietam HS) firing off two shots each. Lynchburg tallied ten shots on goal and 24 total shots, out shooting Alvernia 13 -2 in the second half. Lynchburg also held the upper hand in corner kicks with 11, while Alvernia had only two.

Senior Mid-Fielder Phil Francois (West Windsor, NJ/Princeton HS) had five shots for Lynchburg and scored both of their penalty kicks. Crusader goalie Richard Kessler (Reading, PA/Reading HS) had eight saves.

Alvernia will face host Hampden-Sydney University (0-1) tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 pm.
