Vern Takes 7-2 Bath For First Loss

BOX SCORE

West Chester, Pa. (Oct. 10, 2008) - The Vern suffered a 7-2 beating for its first loss of the season at the hands of the Penn State Brandywine Blue Lions. The game which had the makings of a competitive contest was put to bed early in the second period as PSU pumped in three goals in a four minute span. The Vern surrendered three power play goals during that stretch while skating shorthanded for nearly nine minutes. The Crusaders were serviced 19 minor penalties during the contest adding to the completely unmanageable three-hour horror show.

Offensive highlights were few and far between as Alvernia scored early in the first period and late in the final period. Goal scorers for the Vern were sophomores Eric Ryan (Aston, Pa/Sun Valley) and Anthony Froio (Glenolden, PA/Interboro). Froio had a two point evening assisting on Ryan's game tying goal in the first period. The Vern quickly handed the lead back to the Blue Lions stumbling on the power play which ultimately turned into a half ice break away that was the beginning of the end. The Crusaders skated hard, effectively killing off several 5-on-3 shorthanded moments during the contest, but could not stop the overflow of offense as PSU fired 47 shots over the contest.
