Sippel Scores Five In Loss To Centenary

O’Brien Adds Three For Crusaders

Reading, Pa. (Mar. 27, 2008) – Centenary College jumped out to an 11-3 halftime lead en route to a 21-8 win over Alvernia College Thursday afternoon in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference women's lacrosse action at Schlager Memorial Field.

Alvernia freshman Felicia Sippel (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert) scored five times for the Crusaders and senior Katie O'Brien (Boothwyn, Pa./Garnet Valley) added three.

Centenary scored the first six goals of the game before O'Brien broke through on a free position shot midway through the first half. Sippel scored at the 12:23 mark followed by O'Brien two minutes later to pull to 8-3, but the Cyclones (3-0, 1-0 PAC) tallied the last three goals of the half for an eight-goal cushion at the break.

Sippel scored twice to open the second half, but the Cyclones answered with seven of the next eight goals to pull away for the win. Alvernia junior Janelle Fulmer (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) made six saves in 37 minutes and sophomore Amanda Odenwalt (Lancaster, Pa./The Janus School) stopped two in 23 minutes.

Centenary got eight goals from Kiti Ovaskainen (Helsinki, Finland/Vaskeineoreo Lukio) and five each from Michelle Garone (West Hempstead, N.Y./West Hempstead) and Nicole Becker (Randolph, N.J./Randolph). Senior Clare Johnson (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) made 14 saves in the win.

Alvernia will travel to Cedar Crest College on Saturday.
