BOX SCORE

Reading, Pa. (Mar. 29, 2008) – Manhattanville College scored six goals in the first and second quarters to jump out to a 12-1 halftime lead and finished a 16-4 win over Alvernia College Saturday afternoon in non-conference men's lacrosse action at Schlager Memorial Field.

The Alvernia offense was led by freshman Ben Stidham (Glen Burnie, Md./Cardinal Gibbons) with three goals. Senior Tom Novak (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) scored once to pull within five points of 100 for his career and sophomore Chris Baker (Exeter, Pa./Exeter) had two assists for the Crusaders.

The Valiants got a game-high four goals from Joey Hasbrouck (Wantagh, N.Y.) and two goals apiece from three different players. Andrew Predun (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.) made 12 saves to earn the win while Alvernia goalie Matt Boulton (Broadlands, Va./Briar Woods) stopped 15 for the Crusaders.

Manhattanville opened the scoring with five straight goals before Novak's tally put the Crusaders on the board with 2:45 left in the first quarter. The Valiants answered that 30 seconds later to finish the first with a 6-1 lead and score all six goals in the second quarter.

Stidham was the only one to score in the third quarter assisted both times by Baker. The first goal was scored in a man-up situation and the second at even strength. Stidham finished his hat trick in the fourth quarter unassisted.

Alvernia will return to the conference schedule Wednesday with an afternoon game at Neumann College.
