Allentown, Pa. (Mar. 29, 2008) – Alvernia College scored 11 goals in the first half and added 10 more in the second to cruise past Cedar Crest Saturday afternoon by a 21-10 final in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference women's lacrosse action at Cedar Crest.
Alvernia got a game-high six goals from senior
Katie O'Brien (Boothwyn, Pa./Garnet Valley) and freshman
Felicia Sippel (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert) and five more from senior
McKenna Shafer (Delran, N.J./Cinnaminson) in the win and junior goalie
Janelle Fulmer (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) made eight saves to earn the win.
The teams alternated goals over the opening 12 minutes and Cedar Crest scored the fifth goal of the day for a 3-2 lead with 13 minutes to go in the half. O'Brien tied the score at 3-3 with her first goal of the day and Sippel followed with her second for a 4-3 lead. Alvernia finished off a 9-2 scoring run to end the half and took a commanding 11-5 lead at the break.
The Crusaders (1-4, 1-1 PAC) opened the second half with four of the first five goals and cruised to their first victory of the season. Alvernia will host Neumann College in a PAC contest on Tuesday.
