Immaculata Holds Onto Early Lead

Stidham Scores A Pair For Alvernia

Immaculata, Pa. (Apr. 12, 2008) – Immaculata University scored the first three goals of the day and held off a few Alvernia College charges in a 10-7 win Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference men's lacrosse action at Immaculata.

Alvernia senior Tom Novak (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) scored the second of two for Alvernia to pull within a goal at 3-2, but Immaculata opened up the two-goal lead with the first goal of the second quarter.

Alvernia senior Martin Novia (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) scored on the man advantage later in the quarter to again pull within one, but Immaculata scored four straight goals to take an 8-3 lead. Alvernia freshman Ben Stidham (Glen Burnie, Md./Cardinal Gibbons) scored his first two goals of the day in the final seconds of the first half and the Crusaders were down 8-4 at the break.

Alvernia got goals from Dan Dempsey (Philadelphia, Pa./North Catholic) and Jeff Bohler (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) to again close the gap, but Immculata came back with two more of its own and held on for the 10-7 win.

Alvernia will travel to King's College for a non-conference game on Monday.
