BOX SCORE

Reading, Pa. (Apr. 18, 2008) – Junior rightfielder James Geosits (Wyomissing, Pa./Wilson) and senior Steve Burdan (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) both homered and scored three runs as Alvernia College used a 15-hit attack to beat Marywood 15-4 Friday afternoon in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference baseball action at Alvernia.

Freshman starter Jeremy Hausdorf (Floral Park, N.Y./St. Mary's) struck out nine over seven innings allowing just one run on five hits to pick up his third win of the season. Fellow freshman Ed Thompson (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) made his sixth straight scoreless appearance of the season working an inning and a third to close out the win.

Alvernia senior Tim Carroll (Bensalem, Pa./Conwell Egan) led off the bottom of the first taking the first pitch he saw to the rightfield corner for a triple. He came in to score on a Chris Stoudt (West Lawn, Pa./Governor Mifflin) sacrifice fly and the Crusaders were up 1-0. Geosits homered deep to leftcenter for a 2-0 lead and Burdan then doubled and scored on an RBI groundout by freshman Reid Martin (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata).

Hausdorf continued to keep the Pacers off the board through the fourth and Alvernia blew the game open with five runs in the bottom of the fourth sending 10 batters to the plate and collecting just two hits.

Marywood broke through for a run in the top of the sixth, but Alvernia came back with five more in the bottom of the sixth including three on Burdan's fourth homer of the year.

Alvernia will travel to Marywood for the doubleheader on Saturday to wrap up the regular season conference schedule. One more win for the Crusaders would give them the top seed for the conference tournament which will be held at Bear Stadium in Boyertown May 2-4.
