BOX SCORE

Edwardsville, Pa. (Apr. 3, 2008) – Wilkes University ran off a streak of seven straight goals and held a 13-4 lead at halftime en route to a 19-8 win over Alvernia College Thursday afternoon in non-conference women's lacrosse action.

Alvernia freshman Felicia Sippel (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert) and senior McKenna Shafer (Delran, N.J./Cinnaminson) scored three goals apiece to lead the Crusaders (1-6). Wilkes (4-3) got a game-best eight goals from Ashley Leggio.

Leggio opened the scoring with a pair of goals in the first five minutes of play and the Colonels doubled that lead to 4-0 before Sippel and Shafer scored back-to-back to pull the guests within two at 4-2.

Leggio then added three more during the 7-goal stretch that put Wilkes up 11-2 and both teams added a pair before the break for a 13-4 score midway through the game.

Sippel scored her third eight minutes into the second half and senior Katie O'Brien (Boothwyn, Pa./Garnet Valley) added two second half goals, but the first half deficit was too large to overcome.

Junior Janelle Fulmer (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) and sophomore Amanda Odenwalt (Lancaster, Pa./The Janus School) each played a half and combined to make 12 saves.

Alvernia will return to the conference schedule on Saturday with an afternoon game at Cabrini College.
