Gimber Sisters Both Score For Alvernia

BOX SCORE

Chestertown, Md. (Sept. 11, 2008) - Twin freshmen Sara Gimber and Rachel Gimber (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) both netted first half goals and junior Kate McCaffrey (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert's) scored on a penalty kick as Alvernia (3-2) put together a three-goal first half in a 3-2 win at Washington College (0-4) Thursday evening in non-conference women's soccer action.

Washington College opened the scoring with a goal in the fifth minute of play, but Sara Gimber answered that in the 11th minute and set up her sister four minutes later to put the Crusaders up 2-1.  McCaffrey pushed the lead to 3-1 with a penalty kick in the 41st minute.

Alvernia split time in net between sophomore Kirsten Kelley (Kirkwood, Pa./Bishop Shannahan) and freshman Kristen Mantle (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) with Kelley making four of the team's six saves.  Caroline Greer stopped two for the hosts.

Alvernia will return home to host Franklin & Marshall on Saturday.
