Atlantic City, NJ (Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009) - The Richard Stockton College of NJ sent the Crusaders packing early on Saturday night delivering a decisive 8-0 blow at the Flyers Skate Zone in Atlantic City. The Ospreys dropped a “goose egg” on the Vern extending Alvernia's current losing streak to three games. The Crusader's lost was milestone, marking the first time Alvernia has been blanked since joining the ACHA back in the 2006-2007 season. The difficult defeat accounts for the longest losing streak in club history at three games.
The Crusaders played a scoreless first period with several excellent power play opportunities which turned up empty. The Ospreys goaltending kept Alvernia frustrated while obviously boosting confidence to the offense which capitalized with two goals in the second period. One goal would prove enough as the Crusaders offense was tapped out in this lopsided road show.
The Ospreys were playing with house money entering the final period as they were graciously extended a two man advantage and made good on the power play pumping in two more goals for a quick 4-0 lead. The Vern uncharacteristically played an uninspired third period giving up 6 goals. Crusader defenseman
Howard Bates (Philadelphia, Pa / Father Judge HS) one of the lone bright spots this evening delivered several punishing open ice hits. Bates never short on emotion or physical play gave the Ospreys a good reason to keep their head up. Alvernia will host Lehigh University on Sunday trying to halt a three game skid.
