Crusaders Can't Connect In 7-1 Loss

Baker Scores For Alvernia

BOX SCORE

Reading, Pa. (Mar. 14, 2009) - Alvernia University (1-3, 0-1) connected on just one goal in a 7-1 loss to Manhattanville College (2-2, 1-0) Saturday afternoon in Freedom Conference men's lacrosse action at Sovereign Bank Sports Park.

In the conference opener for both teams the Valiants slowed down the game with extended possessions and tallied three times in the opening quarter for a 3-0 lead.

Chris Baker (Exeter, Pa./Exeter) scored the opener in the second quarter, but Manhattanville matched it for a 4-1 lead at the halftime break.

The score remained the same four minutes into the fourth quarter, and after a missed offensive opportunity by the Crusaders, Manhattanville countered for its fifth goal and added two more with under seven to play for a 7-1 final.

Alvernia freshman Kevin Shupp (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) made 23 saves in net for the Crusaders.  His counterpart Kevivn Predun stopped eight for the Valiants.

Alvernia will travel to Penn State-Abington Wednesday for a non-conference game.
