Reading, Pa. (Mar. 21, 2009) - Alvernia University (6-0, 1-0) used a streak of eight straight goals to take a commanding lead and ran its team record to six straight wins Saturday afternoon with an 18-14 decision over Misericordia University (2-4, 1-1) in Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Conference women's lacrosse action at Sovereign Bank Sports Park.

Alvernia trailed 9-4 with 4:37 left in the first half after the Cougars burried their fifth straight goal.  Sophomore Felicia Sippel (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert), who finished with five tallies, scored back-to-back goals and freshman Sam Landis (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run) found the back of the net 25 seconds before halftime as the Crusaders cut the gap to two, 9-7 at the break.

The home team exploded coming out of the half scoring five times in the first 10 minutes to open up a 12-9 lead.  Five different players scored for the Crusaders including freshman Sarah George (West Chester, Pa./West Chester Bayard Rustin) who finished with a team-best six goals on the day.

Misericordia stopped the streak with a goal from Shannon Tinkham, but Sippel took the next draw and earned a free position shot which she burried to start a streak of six straight for the Crusaders who took an 18-10 lead with just under 12 minutes to play.  George and Sippel tallied two each during the last streak.

Alvernia freshman Jennifer Czarnecki (Philadelphia, Pa./St Hubert), the conference goalie of the week, made five saves in the win while counterpart Kathryn Wallace stopped 26 for the Cougars.
