Monarchs Hold On For First Conference Win

BOX SCORE

Reading, Pa. (Apr. 1, 2009) - Both teams posted a shutout quarter in Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Conference men's lacrosse action at Sovereign Bank Sports Park, but King's College (2-7, 1-4) managed four goals as it held Alvernia University (2-7, 0-5) off the board in the second and Alvernia posted three in the third while King's went scoreless, and the visiting Monarchs posted an 8-6 victory.

King's scored the first two goals of the game before Alvernia freshman Drew Giberson (Conestoga, Pa./Penn Manor) put the Crusaders on the board.  King's then went four straight in the second quarter to take a commanding 6-1 lead at halftime.

Alvernia regrouped and cut into the lead with three goals in the third -- one each from three different players while the Monarchs went scoreless.

The lead was 6-4 for King's entering the fourth and it quickly doubled that margin scoring two goals in just over five minutes.  Neither team found the net for the next seven minutes and Alvernia closed the gap with two goals in the final two minutes of play.

Alvernia freshman Eric Jones (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) made eight saves for the Crusaders as did Tim Cassi for the Monarchs.

Alvernia is back in action on Monday when it travels to Immaculata University for a non-conference game.
