Big First Half Leads FDU Past Women's Lacrosse

Reading, Pa. (Apr. 25, 2009) - FDU-Florham (12-4, 9-2) scored 13 goals in the first half and cruised to a 17-4 win over Alvernia University (8-9, 2-9) in Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Conference women's lacrosse action Saturday at Sovereign Bank Sports Park.

The game closes the season for women's lacrosse and closes varsity competition at Sovereign Bank Sports Park with construction of the turf field on campus scheduled for completion this summer.

FDU won 11 of the 16 first half draws and held a 28-8 advantage in shots as it built a 13-2 lead at the halftime break.  Alvernia's first goal was scored eight minutes into play by Sam Landis (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run) and Megan Corrigan (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) scored the second with nine minutes left in the half.

Heather Coppola (Fulton, N.Y./G. Ray Bodley) scored the first goal of the second half and freshman Sarah George (West Chester, Pa./West Chester Bayard Rustin) scored Alvernia's final goal reaching 55 for the season, the highest total for a freshman at Alvernia.
