Alvernia Falls At Ursinus

Crusaders Open Season With A 12-0 Loss At #3 Ursinus

Collegeville, Pa. (September 1, 2009) - The Crusader Field Hockey team opened their 2009 season with a 12-0 loss at #3 Ursinus College.  Ursinus took the #3 slot in the Preeseason Kookaburra/ NFHCA Division III poll.  With the loss Alvernia falls to 0-1 on the season.

Ursinus put on an offensive show with 35 shots, 22 of which were on goal with four goals in the first half and eight goals in the second half.  Their goal-scoring was highlighted by Alyssa Thren who netted six goals on seven shots and added one assist.  Ursinus College got on the board less than five minutes into the game and would scatter three more goals throughout the first half.  The second half was more of the same with three goals being netted in the first ten minutes of the half and goals nine and ten coming within two minutes of each other.

Alvernia goalie Abby Eby (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) had her work cut out for her facing 34 shots and managing to save ten, while allowing 12.  The Crusaders would manage just three shots all game, just two of which landed on goal.

Alvernia will look to rebound on Sept. 4th when they travel to York College for a non-conference game at 4:00 pm.
