BOX SCORE

Reading, Pa. (Feb. 24, 2010) - Centenary College (1-0) scored seven goals in the fourth quarter to steal an 11-9 come-from-behind win over Alvernia University (0-1) Wednesday afternoon in non-conference men's lacrosse action at Schlager Memorial Field.

Alvernia scored its first goal on the man-advantage in the first quarter. Freshman Jarrod Wiedow (Flanders, NJ / Morristown Catholic) scored an unassisted goal followed by three more goals in the period.

Nick Wingate (Mohnton, Pa. / Governor Mifflin) scored an unassisted goal, followed by Tom Casper (Milwaukee, WI. / Marquette University)--assisted by Dan Hoffstetter (Center Valley, Pa. / Southern Lehigh)--and Chris Bakes (Barto, Pa. / Boyertown) scored assisted by Chris Baker (Exeter, Pa. / Exeter).

Centenary answered Alvernia's four goal streak with three goals in the second period, but the Crusaders were able to bounce back with a pair to hit halftime with a 6-3 lead.

Both teams scored a single goal in the third and Alvernia took a 7-4 advantage into the final quarter.

Centenary closed the gap to 7-5 with a tally three minutes into the fourth, then ripped off five goals in a four-minute span to take an 11-8 lead with under two minutes to play.  Alvernia cut that gap to 11-9 on Robert Finnegan's (Newark, Del./St. Mark's) second of the day, but the Crusaders' late comeback effort ended there.

Finnegan and Wiedow led the way with two scores each for Alvernia.  Freshman goalie Dan Baker (Wilmington, DE / Concord High School) made 17 saves for the Crusaders. Centenary's Kyle McVay saved a total of 14 shots for the Cyclones.
