BOX SCORE

Reading, Pa. (Mar. 9, 2010) – Former PAC rival Gwynedd-Mercy College (4-0) scored five goals in each of the first two quarters and cruised to a 15-2 win over Alvernia University (1-2) Tuesday evening in non-conference men's lacrosse action at Schlager Memorial Field.

The Griffins posted the first goal of the game just over five minutes into play. Jonathan Schmitt rang one off the post less than a minute later, but the Griffin offense connected for four goals in the final seven minutes of the quarter.

GMC kept it going with the first five goals of the second quarter and held a 10-0 lead before Alvernia sophomore Brett Moore (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) converted a full-field outlet from Patrick Dolan (Cranford, N.Y./Cranford) to put the hosts on the board. Moore subbed in and slipped behind the Griffins back line and Dolan's outlet found him in stride, on a bound, and Moore beat the Griffins' goalie on the stick side.

The Griffins won the third quarter, 3-0 and took a 13-1 lead entering the fourth.

Alvernia sophomore Dan Hofstetter (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) scored his third of the season three minutes into the fourth quarter, and the Griffins added a pair for the 15-2 final.

Alvernia freshman Dan Baker (Wilmington, Pa./Concord) made two saves in the first half. Sophomore Kevin Shupp (Cranford, N.Y./Cranford) finished the game and stopped five. GMC goalie Richard Zagari saved six for the Griffins.

Alvernia returns to action Saturday hosting Mt. St. Vincent.
