Rutt Leads Crusaders With Four Goals

Madison, N.J. (April 8, 2010) - FDU-Florham (7-2, 5-0) built a 13-7 halftime lead and finished with a 24-16 win over Alvernia University (7-3, 3-3) Thursday afternoon in Middle Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse action at FDU.

Sophomore Tonya Rutt (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) scored a career-high four goals to lead the Crusaders along with junior Felicia Sippel (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert).  Freshman Alyssa Verrillo (North Wales, Pa./Archbishop Wood) scored three goals, reaching that number for the ninth time in 10 games this season.

FDU opened up with the first three goals of the day and Alvernia battled back to pull within a goal, 5-4 after back-to-back scores from Sam Landis (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run) and Rutt.

The Devils answered with four straight and eight of the next 10 goals for a 13-6 lead.

Alvernia closed within five goals twice in the second half, but FDU continued to score and finished off its fifth straight conference win.

Alvernia goalies Vicky Kearn (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) and Jenn Czarnecki (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert) split time in net and combined to make seven saves.

Alvernia continues the conference schedule hosting Arcadia for a 7:00 game next Wednesday.
