Annville, Pa. (Mar. 2, 2011) - Three different players recorded hat tricks for Alvernia University (1-0, 1-0) including career goals leader
Felicia Sippel (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert's) as the Cruaders opened the 2011 season with a 17-8 win at Lebanon Valley College (0-1, 0-1) in Middle Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse action Wednesday afternoon.
The Crusaders tore out of the gate with the first three goals of the game then answered LVC's first stike with six straight for a 9-1 lead. The Dutchmen scored in the final minute of the half to set a 9-2 score at the break. Sippel was the only player in the game to record multiple goals in the first half as eight Crusaders saw their way into the book.
Sophomore
Alyssa Verrillo (North Wales, Pa./Archbishop Wood) scored her second and third of the game to open the second half as the Crusaders tallied the first three--capped by Sippel's third--for a 12-2 advantage.
Megan Corrigan's (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) third of the game put the Crusaders up 15-4, their largest lead of the game.
LVC didn't put together consecutive goals until the final two minutes of the game when it scored back-to-back for the final margin.
Four different players recorded four-point games for the Crusaders including
Sam Landis (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run) who had a game-high three assists.
Jenn Czarnecki (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert's) made five saves in net for the Crusaders. LVC splite time in net between a pair of netminders who combined to stop seven.
Alvernia will play again next Monday on spring break when it faces Mt. St. Mary's College in Orlando.
