Reading, Pa. (Mar. 23, 2011) - Lebanon Valley College (3-3, 1-0) tallied four goals in the second quarter for a 5-0 halftime lead en route to a 10-3 decision over Alvernia University (2-3, 0-1) in the Middle Atlantic Conference Men's Lacrosse opener for both schools Wednesday evening at Schlager Memorial Field.
Alvernia threw in a late spurt with all three goals coming in the final five minutes of the game.
Rick Reid (Drexel Hill, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) netted a pair and
Brian Ray (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) added the third.
Neithere team could crack the net for the first 13-plus minutes of play until the Dutchmen broke through on an unassisted tally by leading scorer Malik Pedroso. Ryan Leonard, who finished with a game-high four scores, hit paydirt twice in the second quarter as the visitor's lead grew to 5-0.
LVC tacked on a goal in the third and three more in the first seven minutes of the fourth before the Crusaders got on the board.
Alvernia junior
Kevin Shupp (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) made 11 saves for the Crusaders. LVC split time between a pair of netminders who combined to stop five.
Alvernia returns to action Saturday when it hosts King's College in another conference tilt.
Lebanon Valley 10, Alvernia 3
