Crusaders Drop Tight One To Bulldogs

DeSales Starts Strong To Down Alvernia 9-6

BOX SCORE

Reading, Pa. (Apr. 13, 2011) - DeSales (2-9) came out strong with four first-quarter goals on their way to defeating Alvernia (2-10) this afternoon in conference action at Alvernia University.  The Crusaders managed two goals in the second, third and fourth quarter but it would not be enough to overcome the strong start from the Bulldogs.

DeSales managed all four of their first half goals with just over eight minutes remaining.  James Guerrier found the back of the net with 8:15 left and goals followed at 4:03, 2:41 and 0:44 to give the Bulldogs a quick 4-0 lead.  Guerrier had a goal and two assists in the first quarter.

It was the Crusaders who struck first in the second quarter as Patrick Hoban (Morristown, NJ/Morris Catholic) found the back of the net in a man-up situation for Alvernia.  Crusader Sean Boyd (Churchville, Pa./Council Rock South) followed with a goal at 7:51 to bring Alvernia within two at 4-2.  DeSales got one back in the final minutes of the second quarter to gain the three-goal lead at 5-2.

The third quarter saw Alvernia outscored 3-2, but the Crusaders rebounded to win the fourth quarter 2-1, scoring the final two goals of the game.  Their final quarter efforts were not enough as the Bulldogs hung on for the 9-6 victory.

Boyd had three goals and an assist for Alvernia, while Hoban and two others added one-goal efforts.  Alvernia returns to action when they host Manhattanville on Sat. Apr. 16th.
