Bainbridge Scores Five As Alvernia Handles Wilkes

Crusaders Put Up 13 First Half Goals

BOX SCORE

Reading, Pa. (Apr. 2, 2011) - Sophomore Allison Bainbridge (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) netted five goals, while Alyssa Verrillo (North Wales, Pa./Archbishop Wood) added a hat trick as Alvernia (8-1, 5-1 MAC) defeated visiting Wilkes University (2-4, 0-3 MAC) 16-3 this afternoon in conference action.

It was actually Wilkes who got on the board first with a goal less than a minute into the game from Gabby Ford.  After giving up the first goal of the game, it was all Alvernia for the next 13 minutes as they tallied seven goals before giving up another Colonel goal.  Holding a 7-2 lead with 13 minutes left in the first half, the Crusaders strung together another six goals to close out the half with the 13-2 lead.

They opened the second half in the same fashion with three straight goals, while Wilkes netted the final goal of the day with three minutes left in the game.

Alvernia goalie Victoria Kearn (Merrick, NY/Sanford H. Calhoun) played the entire first half allowing just two goals.  While the second-half duo of Jessica Glace (Langhorne, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) and Jennifer Czarnecki (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Hubert) combined for five saves and just one goal allowed.

The Crusaders are back in action on April 5th as they travel to Elizabethtown for another MAC match-up.
